Did you lose that 20 pounds you said you would lose when the ball dropped and 2014 kicked off? Nope? Still hovering around the same weight here in 2015? Managed to actually gain more? Didn’t get that new job? Didn’t quit your old one? Actually, how many of your 2014 goals did you actually meet?
Your Year – They’re better than you
Damn, it got real quiet in here, and fast. Look, you aren’t alone. There are plenty of psychological reasons that this happens to the vast majority of people every year. For most, 2015 would be no different. Why do only a handful of people ever reach their actual New Year’s resolutions? Well, here’s the answer, and you simply are not going to like it. It’s because they’re better than you.
Yeah, I said that. But trust me, I only said it because it’s true. For now anyway. The average American is just that…average. And they are perfectly content in being so. So are you. You know how I know? Because you are average. If you didn’t want to be average, you simply wouldn’t be anymore. You would do whatever it is you keep saying your going to do, and you would stop saying it.
Your Year – But it’s not that simple
Umm, yeah. Actually, it is. Words are a weapon. They are at once, romantic, beautiful, and inspire beyond imagination, and at the same time, ugly, manipulative, and hateful beyond our worst insecurities. Words have been responsible for the rise and fall of every nation on earth. But it is the action that occurs after the words have been spoken that bring the dream into reality. Big Sean said it best in his track FIRST CHAIN, when he said
Coming from a city where bullets turn bro’s into souls
Who knew from that concrete that a rose had arose
Good girls stopped being good when I turned ’em into hoes
Dreams stopped being dreams when I turned ’em into goals
Truer words may have never been spoken. Your dreams remain as such until you actualize them. But YOU are the only one that can do that.
Your Year – Seriously Michael, you’re full of shit, dreams are called dreams for a reason, THEY’RE TOO BIG!
No they’re not. Dreams are quite simply blueprints to the understanding of who we are as individuals. 80% of your dreams are things you are either afraid of, don’t want to accept, or are coming to terms with. The reality is the quicker you figure out what it means and act on it, the quicker whatever it is you are trying to do will come to fruition.
Your Year – MASTER YOURSELF
Did you know that it takes 10,000 hours to become a master at something? Do you know what you do most of on a daily basis? Sleep. You are a master of sleep. What else in your life are you a master of? You’ve figured out how to feed yourself, but WHAT are you feeding yourself? Have you become a master of fast food? Are you a master of pizza? Equally, are you a master of vegetables, eating five times a day, working out on a daily basis, writing down your goals and checking off the things required to meet and exceed them?
What are you the master of?
Let me show you a chart of the differences between a wealthy person’s habits and a poor person’s habits;
How many of these habits do you match up with? Look, some people are simply doing life better than you. They are literally just better than you. That isn’t their fault though. It’s YOURS. You have a few decisions to make. Because my desire for you, is to BE BETTER. I want you to be better than everyone else so when 2016 rolls around about 358 days from now, you are one of those folks that look back at this article and say “I’m better than I was before.” Way better. Laugh in old you’s face. What a bitch old you was huh? Glad we stopped hanging out with that guy, am I right? Am I right? 🙂
Your Year – Run your life
To-do-lists absolutely run my life. And I can’t stop networking. It’s one of my favorite things to do. I also love writing out my goals, and micromanaging them. I like digging deep into a goal and figuring out the exact routes that will get me there. I tend to only surround myself with people that are better than me also, by the way. I love being challenged by the daily people in my life. What habits do you have? This year, challenge yourself to make new habits. It only takes 21 days to form a habit. Let’s run this shit. I can’t wait to see all the amazing ways the people in my life and around me grow this year. Replace all your shitty ones with amazing ones and let’s murder 2015.
